Radar Course
The aim of this one-day course is to give an understanding of the use of radar in small craft as an aid to navigation and for colllision avoidance.
At Maritime Connection we run this course ashore using RYA Approved software. The RYA recommendation is three students per PC but we have one PC per student so there is plenty of "hands on" throughout the day.
The course assumes no previous knowledge of radar. The syllabus includes:
• understanding of radar wave propagation
• radar set components - use of controls - setting-up procedure
• target definition and discrimination
• radar reflectors, active and passive
• types of radar diplay
• radar plotting
• radar as an aid to navigation
• accuracy in range and bearing
• safety precautions in using equipment
