Level II Power Boat
This is one of our most popular courses, and it offers lots of fun and excitement as you learn to drive a powerboat capable of over 35 knots. This two-day course will teach you the skills that enable you to become a competent driver. No previous boating experience is necessary, and by the end of the course we will have you driving competently and safely. This award is the starting point for the International Certificate of Competence.
Aim
to teachboat handling and seamanship in powerboats.
Minimum Age
Twelve. 12 to 16 year olds will receive a Level 2 certificate that will be endorsed: "The holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult".
Syllabus - Practical
1. Launching and Recovery.2. Boat Handling in a variety of situations.
3. Picking up and securing to a buoy.
4. Types of anchors and anchoring techniques.
5. Pontoon berthing.
6. Man Overboard
Syllabus - Theory
1. Knowledge of: types of craft, hull forms, engines and drives, single
and twin screws, inboards and outboards, types of fuels, batteries, wiring,
maintenance checks and close down procedure.
2. Ability to read a chart and plot simple courses and distances in basic
coastal navigation, interpret local bye-laws, understand basic weather information.
3. Understand how to attract attention when in distress, rule of the road,
emergency procedures, fire fighting.
4. Can plan a short passage and has an awareness of the CG66 Small Craft
Safety Scheme, tides and tidal streams, and can use steering and hand bearing
compasses.
